Psalm 34:2 “My soul shall make its boast in the LORD; The humble shall hear of it and be glad.”
Thank you to all who have joined us in this challenge. You can join on any day – and memorize the Psalm at your own pace. Today we add verse 2.
Consider this: In 1 Corinthians 1:26-31, God calls and saves the most unlikely people – you know – people like you and me. He has called the weak, the base, the despised, and those who are nothing in the eyes of the world. Why? He says, so “that no flesh should glory (boast) in His presence.” “Therefore, as it is written: ‘Let him who boasts boast in the Lord.’”
When I get to heaven – and it may be sooner than I expect – I am not going to blow my own horn! I will have nothing to boast about. I did all the sinning – and Jesus did all the saving. I did nothing to earn my place in heaven for even my righteousness is considered as filthy rags. My place in heaven is secured solely by the precious blood of Christ poured out as a sacrifice for me on the cross of Calvary. I am saved by grace (God’s undeserved favor), not by any good works I have ever done. He offered me the free gift of salvation and I took it! There is no room for boasting in heaven, and there is no place for it on earth either. But I am not ashamed to boast about what Jesus Christ has done for me. Proud people reject Christ. The humble person hears the good news and is glad to know that God’s salvation is offered to them, too.
