Psalm 34:16, “The face of the LORD is against those who do evil, to cut off the remembrance of them from the earth.”

Lesson 6 (vs. 16) – The LORD is against those who refuse to fear the LORD

Consider this: This is David’s final lesson on what it means to fear the LORD. The LORD opposes those who do evil. A Google search for “evil people in history” brings up lists naming some of the most evil people who have ever lived on Earth. Most of us likely think that these are the people who will populate Hell. None of us would expect to find our names on the list. But what does Jesus say about that?

Verses 1-15 extol the virtues of the LORD. I have also told stories of the LORD’s involvement in our lives, recalling events of His amazing care, love, and compassion for us and for all who have trusted in Him. I have tried to encourage all of our friends to “taste and see that the LORD is good!” But God has set His face against everyone who is indifferent and unresponsive to His love for them to overthrow them.

God loves you so much that He gave His own beloved Son to die on the cross to pay for your sins in full; to rescue you from sin and death and hell. He offers to you eternal life, the forgiveness of your sin, adoption into the family of God, and a place in Heaven for all eternity. Many people think they are going to heaven simply because they are not named on one of the “evil people in history” lists found on Google. But our names ARE on that list until we repent of our sins and trust in Jesus Christ as our Savior and LORD.

John 3:16-20 (NKJV)

16  For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
17  For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
18  He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
19  And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
20  For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed.
