1954 and 1958
Krista was born first – that takes everyone by surprise. She was born in Seattle, Washington. Don was born four years later in Vancouver, British Columbia. We were both born second children with three siblings each. There were three girls and one boy in each family.
This is the first place in our lives where God intersected our lives. How? First, the Bible tells us that we were fearfully and wonderfully made by the Lord (Psalm 139:13-16). We are His by creation. And God did the same in your life.
The second way the Lord intersected our lives was that both of us were born into Christian homes. Our parents and our grandparents had proclaimed their faith in the Lord to save them. Just as the Lord knew that Abraham would teach his children in the way of the Lord, to do righteousness and justice (Genesis 18:19), so our parents and grandparents taught us about the Lord and His ways. Being born into a Christian home and having Christian relatives does not make us Christians. Each of us must repent of our sins and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ to be saved. We must be born again. Although we heard the good news – the gospel message – from our earliest days, we could not be Christians by being born into a Christian family (John 1:12-13).
We are both so thankful for the heritage we have; for the Word of God we were exposed to; for prayers that ascended to God for us; for Scripture that we memorized; and the regular attendance at church where we heard the preaching and teaching of the Word of God that exalted the Lord. He ultimately used all of that to draw us to Himself (John 12:32).
